NEWS
Newswriting - getting into the grittiness of journalism and uncovering what ever you can find - was one of the main things that got me into journalism in the first place. However, through many trials and error I now know that just a "want" to get a piece written is not enough. You have to have the determination to tell the story in the best and most truthful way you can present itself, which may lead to an hour of research, or an all day research marathon for you to uncover.

The "Fight" to Form Connections
This was my first news story on The Muse. While writing its contents, I began to realize that whatever planning and information I had grabbed throughout the weeks was not enough. to really encapsulate the problem of loneliness in our society I had to look deeper inside myself and the school. I spent weeks pouring though doctor notes, looking at numerous clinical works, and spent time talking to people that knew more about the topic than I did. I had to realize that journalism is not just the principle of knowing everything off the bat, but to be humble enough to find others that can teach you, and to have the capacity to grow and learn in every area.
Battle of The Genres
Live coverage is always a fast paced environment for article writing, which is why writing this piece started before the actual event. Capturing part of my school's unique Spirit Week was tricky, and extensive planning needed to be done in advance. Figuring out people to interview, working through the crowd, and partnering with photographers in the moment was a stressful environment, but by the help of the staff, I was able to produce an article the hours after the event.

The Faces Behind the Fright
This was my first experience with live coverage. Through the loud bass of the speakers, and the constant dancing in the middle of the gym, I managed to take a select amount of people and get the scoop on their costumes, from how long it took for them to make to their underlying inspiration.

Many challenges came to life, as my team and I struggled to edit pictures, edit captions, and make it to our 48-hour deadline. However, the experience helped me realize how to think on my feet and collaborate in a team effort.
